Visible Wellbeing at VC

At Varsity College we take an active role in the pursuit of wellbeing and health for all of our students, staff and families.

In 2016, our College took the first steps towards the development of a wellbeing framework and curriculum that builds upon the traditional pastoral care model.  This model draws upon the growing field of Positive Psychology; a scientific field that studies the flourishing and optimal functioning of individuals, groups and institutions.

It is our belief that everyone at Varsity College is responsible for your child’s wellbeing.  For that reason, this year, we have trained 320 staff, over a three day period, in the latest research and practice in Wellbeing, Resilience and Positive Psychology to provide a holistic, positive learning environment.

Varsity College has also been selected as one of ten foundational schools across Australia, and the only school in Queensland, to work with acclaimed positive psychologist and author, Professor Lea Waters’ (PhD), to revolutionize wellbeing practice across the globe through the introduction of the Visible Wellbeing (VWB) framework. Based on extensive research, VWB combines the science of wellbeing with the science of learning to achieve the three key goals of:

 - helping students and staff to more clearly see their own and other’s wellbeing;

 - helping students and staff more systematically build optimal wellbeing;

 - enhancing learning through the visible wellbeing classroom process.

At its heart, our Wellbeing program consists of four interlinking elements: Visible Wellbeing, Positive Education , Character Strengths and our college Values of Wisdom, Compassion, Courage, Integrity and Citizenship.

Each of these elements combines to ensure a genuine holistic education where students’ passionately embrace challenge, know their purpose and are equipped with the skills for lifelong flourishing.
