Interschool Sport Primary

Interschool sport is offered to Year 5 and 6 students in Term 2 of each school year. Varsity College joins with other schools in the Gold Coast South Primary Sports Association winter season to play against each other.

Students and coaches travel by bus to various venues across the southern Gold Coast. The sports offered are touch football (girls), netball (girls), AUSTAG (mixed), soccer (mixed), rugby league (boys) and Australian Football League(mixed). These sports may differ slightly each year, according to student interest. Interschool sport is played across ten Fridays where students leave the college at midday and return by 2.40pm. Students also participate in weekly training sessions held either before school or during lunch-breaks throughout the season.

Students not selected to play inter-school sport are involved in a Sport @ School program based on fun and participation.

Greater Independent Public Schools Alliance (GIPSA) Sport Secondary

The interschool sport competition for Varsity College secondary students will be conducted on Friday afternoons throughout Terms 1 and 2. Varsity College students will be participating in 5 rounds of sport as part of the GIPSA competition. GIPSA schools competing in the program are Southport Independent Public High School, Helensvale Independent Public High School, Miami Independent Public High School and Varsity College.

It is compulsory that all students in Years 7 to 10 attend one of the activities offered within the Interschool Sports program. This will include an opportunity to trial in one of the many sports on offer or the alternative option of a school based activity for those students who are not selected into one of the competitive sporting teams.

Advanced sporting opportunities at Varsity College

Varsity College is committed to providing opportunities for our 'up and coming' sporting students, so that they continue to improve and achieve their true potential. Identified students are sent to district trials in all Queensland Schools Association representative sporting team and individual sports.

Advanced training is offered at school for students excelling in cross country, track and field and sports aligned with inter-school sport. Varsity College also boasts strong partnerships with many Queensland community sporting organisations, which allows our student to gain access to a variety of experts in their sporting field.

Finally, our college also offers elite sporting students with the opportunity to be selected in our Athlete Development ASPIRE program. This excellence program allows selected students to develop their sporting potential through participating in personalised weekly lessons within school time. For more information on our ASPIRE program, please see the ASPIRE programs section.
